HBK 2255 Sound Level Meter – A Complete Solution Tailored to Your Task

HBK 2255 Sound Level Meter is a single-channel, class 1 noise measurement device with intuitive, task-specific apps designed to get the job done. Whether you are investigating noise complaints at a industrial site, performing product tests in a lab for regulatory compliance, spot-checking noise levels on a factory floor, or remotely monitoring environmental conditions – HBK 2255 is easily adaptable to meet your needs. With the apps installed on a smartphone and PC, you instantly have a complete acoustic measurement solution allowing you to seamlessly move from test to analysis, documentation and reporting.

If your needs are more basic, see our entry-level SLM, B&K 2245.

Key benefits and features

  • Class 1 performance for confident, standards-based broadband measurements (IEC 61672, ANSI/ASA S1.4, DIN 45657 workflows as required).
  • Single measurement range from 22.7 to 140.6 dB(A) from noise floor to maximum level
  • Fast logging down to 1 ms and 16 GB internal storage
  • Comfortable field operation with seven easy-to-reach buttons and a bright, clear display.
  • Removable preamplifier allowing you to switch from the default microphone to Outdoor Microphone Type 4952 and allows the use of microphone extension cables.
  • Fast TEDS-based setup with automatic microphone detection and configuration, reducing errors and saving time.
  • Wireless connectivity for remote control of measurements and data transfers. Automatic data transfer and backup is also possible to network or USB storage media (including NAS).
  • Task-specific apps for mobile and PC provide guided workflows for different jobs-to-do (for example, Building Acoustics Partner for sound insulation testing).
  • Robust design for indoor and outdoor measurements (IP54) with weather station support. Weather parameters can be displayed on screen and are stored alongside sound parameters.
  • Firmware variants are available. In countries like Germany and Spain, where a WELMEC-compliant instrument is required for legal metrology, a WELMEC firmware variant for that country is provided. Otherwise, a standard firmware variant is also available. To get the latest firmware, go to our Downloads page.

See the HBK 2255 datasheet for a complete list of measurement features and specifications.

Typical applications

  • General noise measurements with the standard Noise Partner app. Perform broadband measurements and verify sound pressure levels for systems such as fire alarms.
  • Environmental noise monitoring with the Enviro Noise Partner app. Evaluate environmental noise to ensure compliance with standards. The focused toolset ensures that you have all the tools needed for the job, including markers to isolate sounds (exclude superfluous noise or mark pertinent noise for further examination) and checklists to ensure the job is done correctly.
  • Workplace noise assessment with the Work Noise Partner app. Evaluate workplace noise to ensure compliance with regulations and safeguard employee safety, including determining the need and level for hearing protection. The interface guides you through a full survey and requires minimal training to ensure valid and actionable data.
  • Product noise testing for regulatory compliance with the Product Noise Partner app. Determine sound power emissions, or measure sound pressure levels, according to international standards for regulatory compliance, benchmarking and labelling. Full workflow support simplifies your task and minimizes the chance of errors.
  • Sound insulation assessment with the Building Acoustics Partner app. Perform sound insulation tests according to national and international standards, with an easy-to-use and efficient solution from survey planning through to a finished report.

Versatile and simple noise measurements with a high-performance SLM

With an exchangeable preamplifier supporting more than one type of HBK microphone and advanced measurement features in a rugged and ergonomic design, HBK 2255 could easily become the acoustic professional’s preferred all-round tool.

A complete noise measurement workflow can be performed with a single hand:

  • Set timers or triggers to automate measurements and audio recordings.
  • Perform overall level metrics, spectral statistics or simultaneous 1/1- and 1/3-octave band frequency analysis with time history logging to identify events and document conditions.
  • Apply up to three frequency weightings in parallel.
  • View and evaluate results based on a display that shows the most important information at a single glance.
  • Add annotations and metadata to document measurements and simplify reporting.

For system integrators, a powerful open interface, which allows you to control the instrument and to stream data using other systems, is available via the Open Interface for B&K 2245 and HBK 2255 license that is included with all hardware + software bundles.

Find the SLM solution that best fits your needs

The HBK 2255 platform is designed to offer a cutting-edge sound level meter in task-oriented configurations. Each model is a bundle consisting of hardware + a software license, allowing you to simply select a bundle that fits your measurement needs.

The software licenses, which are installed on the instrument, automatically enable connection to the various smartphone and desktop apps. The app versions are free to download!
