MXFS QuantumX BraggMETER Module

The QuantumX platform combines optical and electrical measurements in a single, reliable, and scalable solution. At its core, the MXFS module is designed for Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)-based sensors, bringing all the benefits of BraggMETER technology to your data acquisition setup for easy, flexible, and cost-effective optical measurements.

BraggMETER technology ensures exceptional precision through continuous swept laser scanning, while a built-in wavelength reference provides continuous calibration for long-term accuracy. Its broadband tuning range of 100 nm with parallel optical connectors enables seamless integration of large sensor networks.

With MXFS modules, hundreds of FBG sensors can be connected in series across eight optical connectors, enabling synchronized acquisition. This makes the system perfect for large-scale sensing networks, delivering accurate and stable measurements for sensors with high strain capability, fatigue resistance, and long-distance installation—all while reducing cost per measuring point and simplifying ownership through a unified platform.

Two module options for your application:

  • Dynamic (DI): High acquisition rates for dynamic monitoring and experimental stress analysis.
  • Static (SI): Lower acquisition rates for long-term monitoring or thermal testing.

Two connector types for adaptability:

  • FC/APC or SC/APC
Key Benefits
  • Integration of multiple measurement types: strain, temperature, acceleration, load, and tilt.
  • ATEX and EN45545 certified for safety and compliance.
  • Seamless integration with QuantumX DAQ system and catman® software.
  • Plug-and-measure design for fast setup.
  • Resistant to harsh environments and immune to EM/RF interference.

Full Integration

Combines synchronized optical and electrical measurements in one modular DAQ system. Fully integrated with HBK software solutions for data acquisition and analysis, including MX Assistant, CommonAPI, and catman® software. Drivers for third-party platforms, such as LabVIEW, are also available.

Scalability

Connect hundreds of FBG sensors across eight optical connectors to build large-scale networks. Expand functionality by adding additional modules, optical or electrical, for expanded and hybrid measurement setups. Integrate seamlessly through multiple communication platforms and protocols, and create analog outputs for flexible system configurations.

Cost Efficiency

Reduces cost per measuring point and simplifies ownership by using a single, unified platform.

From Sensor to Software: the Optical Measurement Chain

HBK offers the complete product portfolio for your monitoring application: With newLight optical sensors, strain, temperature, acceleration, load and tilt measurements are possible. In addition, QuantumX MXFS is compatible with the powerful HBK catman software but also open to other software.

QuantumX MXFS: Full Power with catman

Like all QuantumX modules, MXFS is compatible with catman data acquisition software (DAQ) – version 5.4 or higher –, allowing for data visualization, analysis and storage during the measurement and subsequent reporting.

The software has an extensive range of functionality and is easy-to-use, even for users who are unfamiliar with the technology.

Using catman with MXFS as stand-alone or in a measurement chain that acquires data via different QuantumX modules, the software benefits your measurement in every way:

  • Straightforward measurements of the optical and electrical signals under the same interface
  • Data visualization on multiple pages, parallel measurement task recording, multiple exportable data formats, data saved locally or remotely
  • Sensor configuration, data processing and report generation

The catman licence is already pre-installed on the module. Nevertheless, MXFS is open to any software by modern API and LabVIEW driver.
