Why is Needed the Angular Alignment of the Mechanical Rotor of a Synchronous Machine?

This white paper explains the necessity of the angular alignment of the mechanical rotor position encoder and the electromagnetic rotating field of a synchronous machine (SM). The calculation principles required for this are derived from the simplified equivalent circuit of the SM. Furthermore, the implementation of these calculations using the software Perception is explained in detail and illustrated by the graphical visualization of intermediate and final results. The appendix contains the list of Perception formulas to be implemented, the corresponding calculation results, and an overview of mathematical definitions or functions used to implement the obtained results.

Key Takeaways:

  • Synchronous Machine model
  • Relevance and definition of the offset angle
  • Evaluation of the offset angle
  • Implementation in Perception formulas
