HBK is delighted to announce that its parent group owner, Spectris, has been awarded an A- rating in its 2023 CDP Climate Change disclosure, thus underscoring the company’s commitment to responsible business practices.

This is the first time Spectris has reached CDP’s “Leadership” threshold, positioning the company as a recognised global leader in climate change in terms of its strategy, ambition, and progress. This reflects Spectris’ ongoing dedication to its Net Zero ambition by reducing its carbon footprint, managing environmental risks, and fostering transparency in climate initiatives.

As part of the Spectris Group, HBK is proud of its Net Zero ambitions and is making headway with projects such as the recent installation of solar panels at its Royston site, which are now fully operational and will contribute up to 60% of the site’s energy requirements. The Royston site joins Denmark as the second of HBK’s locations using locally generated solar power.

Across HBK over a third of HBK’s supply chain spend is with companies that are externally rated using the EcoVadis platform. The company has also completed a lifecycle assessment for one of its VI-grade simulator products, showing that these contribute to an overall reduction in emissions due to the savings that they enable its customers to make.

In addition HBK has reduced its energy usage by c. 8% year-on-year* via local energy management teams working with a network of net zero focal points across its factories. These teams have helped implement a myriad of small and large projects to save energy, from the use of LED lightbulbs and motion/light sensitive sensors, to timing air-conditioning units to run only when needed - and at optimum temperatures - to installing variable speed air-con drives and replacing outdated units.

HBK’s commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey that requires continuous improvement and adaptation to emerging trends and challenges, so the company is continuing to explore new opportunities to further enhance its environmental performance.
