2022

Release highlights

The release of nCode 2022 brings improvements in functionality and performance for nCode DesignLife, nCode GlyphWorks, and nCode VibeSys software products encompassing 155 built-in processing and display glyphs and support for over 50 data formats. This latest version of nCode 2022 offers new enhancements that continue to deliver data-driven confidence through accurate analysis post-processing and CAE simulation.

Current customers on active software maintenance can gain access to nCode 2022 and full release documentation using the Support Portal.

Electric power insights

In the nCode 2022 release, the Electric Power glyph has been improved and now offers a new method for calculating electric power results, referred to as the Instantaneous method. This method offers a much more accurate estimate of the AC reactive and apparent power. It calculates the AC, DC and mechanical power and efficiencies from electric and mechanical digitized data. It also allows one to observe how power evolves at a much higher time resolution. With this more accurate method, Electrification engineers can further optimize the electric powertrain in order to increase the vehicle range.

Both the Electric Power and Surface Plot glyphs provide advanced post-acquisition signal processing and power calculations that is ideal for use with Power Analyzers such as HBK's eDrive.

Material properties defined per entity

In nCode 2022 material properties can be defined directly from a formatted CSV file. This allows to set different properties for each entity or to default some or all the properties for all or some of the entities. This enables material properties to vary by location across a whole FE model, improving the accuracy of fatigue life predictions for components such as castings. This functionality is available for standard SN, standard EN and multi-temperature EN analyses.

Local PSD outputs for Virtual Sensor

The latest addition to the Virtual Sensor is the ability to be used on a FE model driven by vibration loads. In this case, the FE-based displacements from a frequency response function (FRF) analysis, either direct or modal, can be used to extract local Power Spectral Densities (PSD) at specific locations. The outputs PSDs can be in terms of displacement, velocity, or acceleration. These "virtual accelerometer" outputs are particularly useful for defining vibration tests of sub-components from the FE model. The FE results can be either direct or modal-based frequency response function (FRF).

Improved model validation with the hot spot glyph

In nCode 2022 there is a new hotspot option to include adjacent locations along with each of the identified hot spots. This option works for both element and nodes and allows the user to easily examine the variation in the results around each critical location and therefore helps to determine the validity of the stress results in those locations. This option is also available in the elimination post processor.

Further enhancements

Additional improvements in nCode 2022 include:
  • Time series file formats updates: Dewesoft DXD, Vector MDF4, HBK BKC
  • The MDF4 file support is now included with Prenscia Access
  • Matlab 2021b is now supported in the Matlab scripting glyph
  • Save Process With Data option also saves a .flo file
  • Brown-Miller added to the multi-axial EN solver options
  • Updated support for all the major FE codes
  • Additional materials in the standard database
  • Constant and variable amplitude seam weld data
  • Two new aluminium seam weld materials
  • New ASME steel seam weld
  • PamCrash FEMZipped files now supported
  • Four versions of Abaqus ODB will be supported at this release: 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021
