nCode Receives Award at SAE 2012 ComVec

SOUTHFIELD, MI (October 3, 2012) - nCode, the leading brand of durability, test and analysis software offered by HBM, has been named the winner of the Poster Session award at the SAE 2012 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress in Rosemont, IL. The "Simulation of fatigue in composite components" poster was evaluated by members of the SAE International Engineering Meetings Board and won based on its presentation of state-of-the-art technical content for the commercial vehicle engineering community.

The poster summarized the application of nCode DesignLife for predicting fatigue of composites in the area of engineering plastics, such as short fiber polymers, that are being increasingly used to reduce weight in vehicles. Composite materials help contribute to the creation of energy efficient vehicles but present additional challenges to the durability engineer because its constituent parts (polymer matrix and fibers) interact to determine fatigue properties that vary with location and direction. nCode DesignLife, a leading solution for CAE fatigue analysis, combines calculated stresses together with specific material properties to predict the fatigue lives of the whole component under different loading conditions.
