Engineers in the fields of test & measurement and maintenance are no longer only processing data coming from analog sensors using traditional data acquisition hardware but, increasingly, they are accessing a mixture of various data types, including low-cost digital data from communication buses and connected vehicles. Bus data is an inexpensive source of readily available parameters in a complex electronic system. Accessing bus data offers huge potential benefits such as understanding customer usage from connected vehicles in order to improve the product validation process and thereby reduce unexpected failures. However, bus data also raises a number of challenges in terms of its analysis because of the quality, quantity, inconsistency, lack of certain data, etc.
The Prenscia Solutions team demonstrated capabilities for reliability and durability analytics integrated into the PI System while attending the OSIsoft PI World Users Conference in San Francisco. Feedback from PI World is providing insights valuable into understanding customer needs, shaping future products, and sparking innovation for Asset Management.
The capabilities demonstrated included the use of nCode technology and tools to provide advanced, interactive analytics from PI System data, and the use of ReliaSoft technology and tools to automatically generate incident reports for events triggered by the PI Asset Framework, thus providing context, reliability analytics and ability to perform Root Cause Analysis. With these new foundational capabilities, the Asset Management community can now use data in their PI System to provide high value, actionable information for reliability management, predictive analytics, and Health and Usage Monitoring.

nCodeDS (Digital Streams) can process large datasets of measured sensor data at speeds previously unrealizable, even more than 10 times faster than existing tools. It achieves this through a breakthrough streamed processing architecture that enables data to be broken into “streams” that can be processed simultaneously through a multi-step network of analysis steps. Each calculation can be accelerated through the use of multi-core processors and scaled even further by dividing the data across multiple parallel executions.
Even greater speed benefits are shown when applied to the increasing amounts of low quality, low sample rate, time-stamped data such as automotive CAN bus. Connected vehicles, for example, are making these sources of data readily available and offer the promise of transformational information. Importantly, nCodeDS provides the ability to clean up missing or incorrect values from this digital bus data prior to further analysis.
nCodeDS provides a range of built-in analysis capabilities you would expect from nCode software including time at level calculations, statistics, FFT, and even damage calculations. Plus, it also allows Python scripting to be used part of the analysis network to allow fully configurable yet scalable analytics. nCodeDS is available as part of Aqira, which provides a server-based platform for scalable deployment with a web interface for easy access and sharing of analysis processes and results.
