T40HS High‑speed Torque Transducer: Precision Torque Measurements for Extreme Rotational Speeds

The T40HS torque flange is engineered for one purpose: deliver exceptionally accurate torque measurement in the most demanding high‑speed applications. With its bearingless, contactless design and robust construction, the T40HS ensures reliability, low uncertainty, and long‑term stability – especially valuable in turbo machinery, turbine engine testing, and electric machine development.

Key features

  • Accuracy class: 0.05
  • Rotational speed: up to 45,000 rpm
  • Nominal (rated) torque: 100 N·m to 3 kN·m
  • Compact design
  • High stiffness
  • Bearingless, non-contact signal transmission
  • High accuracy and stable digital output
  • Optimized for dynamic torque measurement
  • Low moment of inertia
  • Lightweight titanium body

Built for durability and reliability with exceptional measurement accuracy

With an accuracy class of 0.05, a minimal temperature effect per 10K, minimal non-linearity, small hysteresis and excellent repeatability, the T40HS guarantees high accuracy across a wide measurement range.

T40HS’ bearingless, in‑line design ensures simple installation, minimizes mechanical influence thus achieving low measurement uncertainty, and produces clean, stable data even under highly dynamic load conditions.

And due to its lightweight titanium body, the high-speed torque sensor has a low moment of inertia. This results in a lower torque during acceleration and reduced bearing load – thus increasing the lifetime of your system.

Typical applications

T40HS is designed for ultra‑high‑speed applications. It is perfectly designed to withstand the harsh conditions of automotive test benches and aerospace and energy testing environments, such as:

  • High-speed propulsion systems
  • Turbines
  • Transmission test rigs
  • Adjustable actuators
  • Complete drive trains

The minimal measurement uncertainty enables reliable results and ensures accurate end-of-line control in production.

Contactless digital signal transmission that eliminates wear and reduces maintenance

The T40HS torque transducer includes HBK’s integrated digital communication interface TMC (torque measurement communication) as a standard feature. Via this interface you can connect to a torque interface module (TIM) to extend the capabilities of the torque flange in a flash, adding modern Ethernet-based fieldbuses with digital interfaces and delivering a standard frequency output. The TIM-EC module enables you to integrate the torque sensor into many modern automation and control concepts via digital technologies such as EtherCAT and PROFINET.
