This seven-page HBK paper, co-written by Dr. André Schäfer, HBK Product Manager of Torque & Measurement, and Dr. Alexander Stock, technologist of Electric Power Test in HBK, was chosen for its practical importance to feature in a special issue of the well-known Measurement journal of Elsevier - one of the world's largest providers of scientific content.

Discover a Pioneering Approach to Efficiency Determination for Electric Motors and Generators

In a soon to be net zero future, renewable energy generation, electric personal cars as well as commercial vehicles, aircraft with battery-electric drive systems and ships with electric engines will soon dominate the landscape. At the same time, generators in wind turbines are essential in renewable energy generation.

Because of the urgent need for effective energy conversions this paper shows how to achieve better efficiency determination of electric motors and generators by a better cross-connection of mechanical and electrical side to further reduce the total measurement uncertainty of electrical machines. Thus, it may be interesting to everybody who needs to measure efficiency maps and improve measurement  uncertainties of the results.

Amongst the key themes - motors and generators are sophisticated electrical machines vital for the transition towards e-mobility and renewable energy generation.

A seven-page HBK paper, demonstrating a pioneering approach to efficiency determination for electric motors and generators, within e-mobility and wind energy applications, has been published in a prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journal.
