BAE Systems Australia is providing the Royal Australian Navy with a superior anti-submarine capability through the Hunter Class Frigate Program, which will see a fleet of warships built at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia. The Hunter class frigates are based on BAE Systems’ Type 26 Global Combat Ship design, currently being constructed in Glasgow, Scotland, for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy.
Each warship will be constructed on an acoustically quiet hull and feature unique sonar capabilities, modular digital design and open systems architecture to facilitate through-life support and upgrades as new technology develops.
The Hull Vibration Monitoring Equipment (HVME), provided by sound and vibration expert HBK for the first batch of three Hunter class frigates, comprises commercial off-the-shelf equipment that includes transducers, data acquisition, and vibration measurement and analysis capabilities.
