Vibration Testing When Cables Can't Be Used or Would Interfere With the Test

The Molecu Wireless Sensor is a compact, battery-powered vibration sensor for modal analysis, structural analysis and general purpose triaxial vibration measurements. As part of the HBK Molecu Wireless Vibration System, it combines a triaxial accelerometer, FFT calculation, internal memory, rechargeable power source and wireless radio communication in one lightweight device. This makes it suitable for fast, flexible vibration testing on machinery, vehicles, structures and other test objects where conventional wired setups can limit access or slow down deployment.

Key features

Innovative design: Go wireless without compromising insight

  • Wireless triaxial accelerometer for vibration and structural analysis measurements
  • MEMS (micro-electromechanical) -based technology for accurate sensing and conversion in a miniature transducer
  • Available on-board FFT calculation

Reliable results ready when you are

  • Configurable frequency range up to 0.7 to 1600 hertz with sampling rates up to 4096 samples per second
  • Integrated 2 GB storage for stand-alone data logging
  • Wireless communication range: Up to 80 meters with direct line of sight and fully charged battery

Powerful and practical

  • Multi-sensor synchronization
  • Measurement ranges: ±50 to ±500 g
  • Compact 22-gram design
  • Standard accelerometer clip or adhesive mounting
  • Rechargeable lithium-polymer battery with fast recharging via waterproof USB-C connector

Traditional vibration measurements – plus more

As a wireless triaxial accelerometer, the Molecu sensor provides comprehensive vibration data in three directions for efficient measurement and effortless test deployment. Using the system's software to set up the sensor, you have the flexibility to configure the accelerometer to meet your vibration test needs:

  • Real-time monitoring and measurement
  • Unattended data logging (recording)
  • FFT calculation

All recorded, measured and calculated data is stored directly on the accelerometer for later download via the gateway to a connected PC. When multi-sensor setups, the system ensures synchronization between the accelerometers – enabling many vibration and structural analysis applications, including operational modal analysis (OMA) and operating deflection shapes (ODS).

Mounting is the same as with standard accelerometers, using either beeswax or mounting clips. Supported mounting accessories are available to order here:

Typical applications

  • Vibration testing where cables cannot be used or would interfere with the test
  • Fast troubleshooting of machinery and rotating equipment
  • Research and development measurements with limited test time
  • Production and end-of-line vibration checks
  • Operational modal analysis for identifying structural dynamic behaviour
  • Operating deflection shape measurements for visualizing vibration patterns during operation
  • Large structures such as wind turbine blades where cabling is slow or impractical
  • Measurements in confined, moving or difficult-to-access locations

Part of a total vibration test solution

The Wireless Sensor integrates with HBK Molecu Gateway and Molecu graphical user interface software to create a complete wireless vibration measurement system. The gateway configures the sensor network, receives wireless data and transfers measurement data to a PC. The system also includes a charging box for charging up to 12 Molecu accelerometers – so you are always ready to measure.

The system’s software development kit (SDK) and API-based user interface support integration into your current system and test environment using languages such as Python, C# or other programming language – for full flexibility.
