In modern aircraft design engineering, computer-based virtual simulation and fatigue bench testing grow more and more together. Before a pre-series test article is manufactured for a physical fatigue test in the lab, critical design spots have already been optimized by computer-based fatigue simulations.
Simulation is an essential step towards optimization but cannot cover alone all the necessary requirements for validation. Reproducible static and fatigue testing of components based on true load profiles and analyzing the results is a necessary and crucial discipline before releasing the new design or product. A seamless and efficient toolchain is required to obtain reliable results.
