Designing and Testing the Endurance of Structural Components for Electric Vehicles

The year 2021 "is shaping up to be a critical year for EV adoption," according to Morgan Stanley. This significant shift in the market is requiring the rapid development of many vehicle models and new technologies. These products all need to be engineered with the durability, reliability and performance that customers depend on for mobility.

This presentation will give an overview of how EV manufacturers are gaining insights and improving designs by using Prenscia software brands, nCode and ReliaSoft. In particular, we will highlight the following aspects:

Mechanical and durability aspects

  • Fatigue design of battery packs
  • Accelerated vibration testing of battery packs
  • Fatigue analysis of light-weight vehicle structures

Electrical and signal processing aspects

  • Electric motor efficiency and loss mapping
  • Power measurement and analysis
  • Real-world battery usage and target customer analysis

Statistical and reliability aspects

  • Battery life analysis
  • Battery performance degradation modelling and analysis
  • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) for new EV technologies
