Recalibrate your expectations with more than just a calibration

BUYERS GUIDE
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A SOUND LEVEL METER

Behind the Scenes

Calibrating sound level meters is no simple task, and one that requires strict control of the environment. In this video, Jesper Bo Vedel, Global Calibration Manager at Hottinger Brüel & Kjær takes us through the calibration process and explains its ins and outs.

At HBK a sound level meter calibration is not just a calibration

Sound level meters are calibrated according to relevant standards: IEC 61672 for sound level meters in general and IEC 61260 for octave-band filter measurements (or previous versions for older instruments).

However, as the manufacturer, HBK also performs additional checks of its instruments. The capacity of internal batteries is checked, and the batteries replaced if needed. The same goes for windscreens. Interfaces that aren’t covered by the above standards – such as GPS, USB, Wi-Fi – are furthermore tested and verified as part of the calibration at HBK.

HBK CALIBRATION SERVICE

In addition, HBK offers free firmware upgrades to the latest version as part of the calibration. This has to be requested as we know that many customers prefer to stay on known firmware.

HBK Assured

It is always good to know the operational costs when you buy a sound level meter. This is fulfilled by signing an HBK Assured contract. Such contract combines regular calibration with extended warranty.
If an instrument fails during the contract period, it is repaired for free. It also gives you discounted prices on accessories and other services.
